Algae

Sometimes, life can make you feel like crud. Situations are out of your control. People fail you that you thought never would. Sickness, death, loss, and disappointments can plague the mind into believing everything sucks.

Sometimes, I feel like that layer of pond scum. That stuff that scares people from entering a lake or looks contagious to touch. Maybe it’s the loneliness of the floating mass or the impression that people should isolate from the problem, but I feel unlovable.

But what is that scum looking bacteria that coats the water? It’s algae. It produces up to 80% of the earth’s oxygen. Something so little, and disgusting looking, God created to support life.

What can we take away from that? Even when we feel like pond scum, God can use us to make a difference. Even when we feel alone, God will take care of us. Even when situations are out of our hands, God has a plan.

“Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” -Psalm 55:22

“I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” -Genesis 28:15
