Sometimes my husband says the most profound things to me. Recently, I told him how worried I was because my dream business was not profiting the way I wanted it to. I’m concerned for cash flow and the impact on our little family. My husband says “you’re not supposed to worry- that’s my job”. At first I objected because we are a team and we should share the burdens. Until I realized that I worry about too many things between the house not being clean enough, I did not work out enough, and many other aspects of life that don’t look as good as I want them to. I paused as I thought over a reply. “Then why am I worried about it?”
As the week has gone on, this conversation kept coming back to mind every time I thought about our finances. “It’s my job to worry about that.” – That is what God tells us.
The anxiety and worry we allow ourselves to be consumed in is not part of God’s plan for us. He wants us to have faith that He will work out everything. We believe God is good, but do we trust Him enough to carry out that goodness? God is telling us each morning when we choose to worry or be afraid that it isn’t our job.
Isaiah 41:10 – “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
1 Peter 5:7 – “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”
Luke 12:22-23 – “Then Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.”
